Galynne : Take What You Need Do you believe in God?

Do you believe in God?

Posted on Jul 28th, 2007 by Galynne : Take What You Need Galynne
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 28, 2007:

I was laying in bed this morning asking myself this very question. THEN I open up the daily QaR and BAM!! It's the question of the day. This is one of many times I have opened up QaR and found the question to be one I was just asking myself. I do not believe in the God portrayed by many religions that is described as seperate from us. I like how Eckart Tolle describes God in 'The Power of Now': "The word God has become empty of meaning through thousands of years of misuse. I use it sometimes, but I do so sparingly. By misuse, I mean that people who have never even glimpsed the realm of the sacred, the infinite vastness behind that word, use it with great conviction, as if they knew what they are talking about. Or they argue against it, as if they knew what it is that they are denying. This misuse gives rise to absurd beliefs, assertions, and egoic delusions, such as "My or our God is the only true God, and your God is false," or Nietzsche's famous statement "God is dead." The word God has become a closed concept. The moment the word is uttered, a mental image is created, no longer, perhaps, of an old man with a white beard, but still a mental representation of someone or something outside you, and, yes, almost inevitably a male someone or something. Neither God nor Being nor any other word can define or explain the ineffable reality behind the word, so the only important question is whether the word is a help or a hindrance in enabling you to experience That toward which it points. Does it point beyond itself to that transcendental reality, or does it lend itself too easily to becoming no more than an idea in your head that you believe in, a mental idol?"

Great quote! - And speaking of coincidence, you'll never guess how I got here…  :P

When I checked my inbox this morning, I found a reference from Ladybear to Zaadz' question of the day.  Immediately, I dusted off my copy of The Power of Now thinking that I might share this selection.  Next, hoping to avoid all that typing, I searched the collection of quotes at Zaadz to see if someone had gone through that labor.  I found the first paragraph, but not the second through fourth. At that point, I put the thought aside thinking that I'd come back to the task later in the day.

My next cruise through Zaadz was to check my friend's blog posts.  In the process of doing that I ran into your response to Ladybear's answer to this question.  Because you mentioned Zeitgeist, which is a documentary on my to-check-out list, I thought I'd also stop by here.

Imagine my surprise when, after turning to your blog, I find the entire selection I planned to copy! - What a great way to start the day. - Thanks!   :)

How beautiful when synchronicity happens at that level.

Sending lots of love your way. And thank you for your gift of friendship. :-))

“The moment the word is uttered, a mental image is created”

Thus says it all for me, I would say.

The opening line of John Lennon’s ‘God’ also aludes to that which is sheer folly -the putting of Truth in a box. Packaging it. Labelling it.

“God is a concept, by which we measure…”

I have long since ceased that which I believe to be God, in favor of the experience of that which I once called God.

Thanks for an enjoyable read!

Thank you for that, David.

About two months ago, I officially left the Baha’i faith - my religion of almost 25 years. A beautiful religion I was certain I would be part of for the rest of my life. The decision to leave was because I stand for my own personal search after truth. My philosophy is that life is an array of ideas, opinions, beliefs, attitudes, and experiences. I take what I need to live a happy healthy life and I leave the rest.

The process for being born into this world is the exact same for all of us…. (sperm, egg, 9 months gestation..etc…) Our very first heart beat is sparked from our mother’s heart beat. I do not believe that somewhere between birth and death we must be a card carrying member of any religion, organization, political party, or rigid lifestyle

I also believe with EVERY INCH OF MY BEING that we are rapidly evolving. Revolutions are caused by people evolving at the same time. Evolution = Revolution. We are waking up and finding ourselves more conscious of what it means to be enlightened. I see it. I feel it. I believe it.

Sending mega love your way :-))
